As County Music Co-ordinator, my role is to :
Most songbooks are no longer available but certain songbooks may be purchased direct from Regions or London Guiders Singing Circle. If you wish to order from London Guiders there is an order form as an attachment at the bottom of this page.
Why not look at www.girlguiding-anglia.org.uk for a range of song books. Log on and go to Shop Online and see the new 'Sing to Celebrate' book and tape. the books include songs such as 'Bananas of the World', 'I am a pizza' (don't confuse with pizza hut), 'Captain Jack' and many others.
PPL (Phonographic Performace Ltd) and PRS )Performing Rights Society) will be launching a joint licence scheme from 1 January 2012. This will affect all premises owned or used by Girlguiding UK.
There has been an exemption period throught 2011 excluding voluntary and community groups from these music licensing fees. Unfortunately we can no longer benefit from this exemption and from 1 January 2012 onwards, owners and management committees must register and pay for a licence to enable users to play any kind of music, show television programmes or films.
Under this new licensing scheme tariff, community buildings with an annual income of £10,000 or less are required to pay a flat fee of £42 per year. Community buildings with an annual income of more than £10,000 are required to pay a fee equal to 1% of that income. Owners and management committees need to apply via the PPL website to obtain a licence. Failure to obtain a licence may be a breach of copyright and could result in prosecution.
Leaders should check that the premises they are using for guiding have a new PPL and PRS licence from 1 January 2012 before undertaking any musical or performance activities.
Girlguiding UK continues to campaign against the introduction of this new licensing scheme as we are aware this will cause hire charges to rise. Members will be updated should any changes to this new scheme be announced.
Attend County trainings or contact the Music Co-ordinator
Get a group together and someone from the County music team will come and assist. You would need to give at least a month’s notice.
Keep looking at our web-site and this should happen in the near future.
You don’t have to sing to have fun with music. There are various ways around this. Attend a County training or ask for a Fireside training.
